The County Cup, also known as the County Team Matchplay Championship, is open to all member clubs of the Renfrewshire Golf Union. See below for full details of conditions of play.

CONDITIONS OF PLAY

  1. Each team will comprise of four players, one from each of the following categories: Category One 5 and under, Category Two 6 to 12, Category Three 13 to 20 and Category Four 21 to 28.
  2. Team members can vary in each round as long as the handicap limits are complied with.
  3. Matches will be played with full handicap allowance. Any player who arrives on the first tee with a handicap higher than the category he represents, will play off the highest handicap within the category he represents e.g. a player in the Category One section, whose handicap has gone up to six, must play off a handicap of 5.
  4. Selection of players must be based on their current handicap on the day of the tie. Clubs are not permitted to select players with a handicap lower than the category they represent e.g. a player with a current handicap of 12 cannot be selected to represent the Category Three section 13 to 20.
  5. If on the day of the tie a player's handicap is lower than the category he represents, the match is considered void and his opponent wins the tie 10 and 8.
  6. Results of matches are based on normal match play rules e.g. if a player is 4 holes up with only 3 holes left, the player wins 4&3. The game is therefore finished on the 15th green and is not continued through 18 holes.
  7. One team point is awarded for each category match won, ½ point for halved match and 0 points for a loss. Thus in each tie there are 4 points available, with the team scoring 2½ points or more progressing to the next round.
  8. In the event of a two-all tie, the 'away' team shall be declared the winner (except in the Final).
  9. In the event of a two-all tie in the final, aggregate holes up or down will decide the winner. If the final still remains tied, the result of the Category One match will decide. If all four matches are square, then the Category One player's sudden death play off result will decide the Tie. There will be no replays of matches. If the tie is still square after the Category One players have played 18 holes they should continue playing until a result is achieved. As such, the Category One players should play, where possible, in the last match of the Final as this avoids the players having to go back out on to the course.
  10. Clubs progressing to the next round will be informed of their opponents after each round is completed.
  11. The closing date for each round must be adhered to, the onus being on the Home Clubs to arrange suitable dates. Under no circumstance will extensions be allowed. The Home Club must offer at least one weekend date. The start date for the next round is the day after the end date of the previous round.
  12. Preliminary Round to be played by 3rd May 2009
First Round to be played by 7th June 2009
Quarter Finals to be played by 5th July 2009
Semi Finals to be played by 2nd August 2009
  13. The Final will be held on 30th August 2009 at a neutral venue. The venue will be arranged by the County Cup Convenor when the finalists are known.
  14. There is an entry fee of £20 per team and this must be paid prior to the tournament starting, preferably clubs should pay at the RGU AGM.
  15. Clubs must ensure that the player's representing their team adhere at all times to the dress rules of the club they are visiting.
  16. Clubs drawn to play a home tie should afford the courtesy of catering for visiting players.
  17. All results, queries and disputes should be referred to the County Cup Convenor, preferably by e-mail - see above for contact details.
  18. Results will be posted to this site and e-mailed to the winning clubs so that next round ties can be arranged.
  19. Member Clubs MUST inform the County Cup Convenor of their County Cup convenor's name, address and email and/or telephone number ideally by 15 March 2009, and in any event prior to the start of the competition.
