Stewart Watt (OCRGC) Crowned Duncan Champion
Stewart won the event with a 19th hole triumph over Craig Pirie (Renfrew).
After steady, rather than spectacular golf over the opening fifteen holes, Watt held a slender one-hole lead playing the 16th. It was at this point that the match burst into life. After both players hit close approach shots, Pirie’s birdie levelled the match. On the 17th, Watt countered with a birdie of his own to go back to one-up.
On the 18th, with Pirie hitting his approach to four feet, Watt missed the green, but got up-and-down to save par and put the pressure back on Pirie – who’s short putt was never in doubt, and thus the third birdie on the spin levelled the match and forced extra holes.
In a further miraculous development, on the first extra hole Watt holed from eighteen feet, again for birdie, to claim a hard-fought victory.
In the morning semi-finals, again both matches were close, with Watt defeating Ewan Cleary (Erskine) and Pirie defeating Colin Edgar (Elderslie) both by a margin of 2&1.
Thanks to the members of Renfrew GC for affording courtesy of the course for this championship.

Paul Alexander wins Renfrewshire County Stroke Play Championship
The County Stroke Play Championship of the Renfrewshire Golf Union was held at Caldwell Golf Club on Sunday 20th May and the conditions for the event were good due to the recent dry spell, but this made the course difficult to score on with the firm conditions. The scoring in the morning resulted in reduction only for handicap purposes with a CSS of 74 with a total of 44 players starting.
Matthew Clark – Kilmacolm Golf Club returned to defend his Title and led in the first round with a 2 under par, 69 including 4 birdies on the back 9, his nearest challenger being Euan Cleary – Erskine G.C with a 4 birdie round of 71 followed on 72 by Stewart Watt – Old Ranfurly and Alex Ferguson – Paisley on 72 and on 73 Paul Alexander – Caldwell and David Sibbald – Bonnyton on 73.
In the afternoon round Matthew Clark came in with a round of round of 72 for a total of 141 to set the pace.
This was matched by Alex Ferguson with his second round of 69 for a 141 total and a playoff looked likely as none of the first round challengers managed to produce a better score.
However the title was settled when local player Paul Alexander returned the round of the day with a gross 65, in halves of 33 and 32, which included 7 birdies and a solitary bogey at the 6th to give him a total of 138.
The afternoon CSS was 73.

1 – Paul Alexander – Caldwell – 138
2 – Alex Ferguson – Paisley – 141
