2021 Race to Mar Hall
Details of this event have now been provided to all participant clubs and shared on the RGU Facebook page.
For full details visit the RGU Order of Merit page.
Competitions:Following an Executive meeting held on the 29th of April, the RGU have decided that due to the ongoing Coronavirus situation, and the likelihood of competitions not being able to beplayed for a period of time after the lockdown is eased, that ALL domestic competitions due to be played in 2020 will now be cancelled.
This decision was not taken lightly, however the impact on clubs was at the forefront of this outcome and the disruption that trying to rearrange venues would cause. The clubs that were due to host this year’s events will be contacted separately with a view to the events being hosted at the same venue in 2021.
All entrants will be contacted separately regarding their entry in the various events.
For clarity this includes the Boys, Youths and Gents County Championships, the senior and Handicap Championships, the Club Team Championship and the Champions of Champions.
Per Capita Fees:The Executive having considered the Per Capita fee position have decided that there will be no Per Capita fee amount to be paid next season i.e. from this coming October for 2020/2021. This will allow clubs to adjust their annual fee requirement and hence allow you, their members, to benefit directly.
For now we hope everyone is following the guidelines and staying safe.
2020 Competitions Update
Following the government decision to continue the current social distancing restrictions through to at least the 11th May 2020 the RGU has decided that the events due to be held on the 10th May (West of Scotland Championships, Gleddoch), the 13th May (Seniors, Kilmacolm) and the 17th May (County Championships, Paisley) will be postponed until further notice.
Conversations are ongoing with all clubs with a view to rescheduling these events later in the 2020 season, your patience in this process is greatly appreciated. If the events cannot be played a full refund will be made available to all entrants.
The RGU hopes that you and your families are safe and well and urges each and every one of you to Stay Home and Stay Safe, we will be back on the course soon.

RENFREWSHIRE WIN WEST OF SCOTLAND GOLF LEAGUE
Renfrewshire A team recorded a narrow 4.5-3.5 win over Lanarkshire at Paisley Golf Club last weekend in a competitive match with a come from behind success over the back nine holes to successfully defend the West of Scotland Golf League. Renfrewshire knew they had to win only two games to win the league on goal difference but were focussed on achieving a positive result to win league on points. This was an excellent achievement and all the players should be delighted with their performance. Players from both sides enjoyed playing the course which was in pristine condition for time of year although the noticeable breeze made the course play longer, nevertheless several players were on top form and broke par.
Stewart Watt (Old Course Ranfurly) won 4/3 against Dominic Dougan (Airdrie)
Chris Conroy (Paisley) lost 3/2 against Dylan Burt (Colville Park)
David Dickson (Bonnyton) won 4/2 against Willie Steele (Lanark)
David Sibbald (Bonnyton) lost 4/3 against Garry McLetchie (Lanark)
Willie McMillan (Bonnyton) halved with Kevin Prentice (Lanark)
Allan Johnston (Bonnyton) won 6/5 against Keith Turnbull (Larkhall)
Andy Jamieson (Paisley) lost 1 down against Scott Thomson (Drumpellier)
Craig Thomson (Paisley) won 4/3 against Jamie Reid (Drumpellier)
Throughout this year’s campaign, 14 players represented Renfrewshire in the league with the additional players being Derek Anderson (Cochrane Castle), Ronnie Clark (Erskine), Michael Daily (Erskine), Paul Dorrian (Greenock), Colin Edgar (Elderslie) and Alex Ferguson (Paisley).
Well done also to David Dickson, Stewart Watt, Alex Ferguson, Craig Thomson, Allan Johnston and Michael Daily who remained undefeated throughout this year’s campaign.
Renfrewshire would like to thank all our players for giving up their time to play for the county team this year.
WOS LEAGUE POSITIONS
West of Scotland Gents Match 1: –
The RGU enjoyed a fantastic start to this year’s WOS campaign after recording a 6.5-1.5 win over Ayrshire at Bonnyton Golf Club.
The Renfrewshire team was primarily composed of Bonnyton & Paisley players and local knowledge helped to support a fast start over the front nine where we led 5-3.
1)D Sibbald A/S Vs C Hamilton……strong middle holes led to 3up playing 15th which was lost to a birdie, then 16th to a par and finally 18th to a plugged ball which was found after hole conceded.
2)A Ferguson Won 5/4 Vs C Telfer…..……Alex started strongly, built a lead and continued to win holes until match finished on 14th hole.
3)W McMillan Lost 3/2 Vs S Spence……..home club champion and player on form unfortunately had an off day going 4 down thru 8 before winning two holes then finally losing at 16th.
4)D Dickson Won 5/3 Vs S Stamper………always in control after quick start with several birdies and remained in control despite a poor 5 at 14, David won 15th to end match.
5)C Thomson Won 3/1 Vs B O’Rourke…..close match thru 10 holes before birdies at 12 & 13 followed by nice up and down at 14 leading to 3up before winning match at 17th.
6)A Johnston Won 4/3 Vs M Pennycott…fast start with couple of birdies had Allan ahead and although opponent played well, wins at 14 & 15 closed out match.
7)P Dorrian Won 3/2 Vs G Telfer……………tight front 9 ended all square, wins at 10, 14 and 16 ended match.
8)A Jamieson Won 2/1 Vs S Wallace………Andy turned 2up after wins at 8 and 9, both players hit green at 14th and then 3 putted, a loss at 15 was followed by winning birdie at 16th and par at 17.
Next match is home to Glasgow at Ranfurly Castle GG.
Same team selected with exception of Stewart Watt replacing Paul Dorrian who is unavailable.
Thanks to Bonnyton Golf Club for hosting the match.
Renfrewshire Boys lose to Ayrshire
Renfrewshire Boys Golf Team lost to the team from Ayrshire Golf Association at Caldwell Golf Club on Sunday 11th August by 5 matches to 3.
This now leaves the West League wide open as there are now no unbeaten teams left playing. A win to-day for Renfrewshire would have all but have confirmed their title win, but it now all comes down to the last series of games.
The course was in good condition and held up well despite the very poor overhead conditions. The fact that the course was closed the previous day says a lot for the playing surfaces at Caldwell as despite soggy underfoot conditions, the course and the greens in particular held out well against the constant rain.
The Renfrewshire team again showed a few changes due to various events also taking place on the day.
Drew Cleaver continued his unbeaten form and won by 3/2.
Alexander Farmer making a welcome return after his earlier injury secured a half match having been 2 up with 2 to play.
The next few games proved pivotal to the result as through 12 holes most RGU boys were ahead but a mixture of poor play by the RGU and good play by Ayrshire saw them win the next 4 games, 3 of which went to the last green.
Cameron Percy unbeaten this season, and on his home course was always in control and won comfortably 4/3.
In the final game, local club Champion, Roddy McAuley was 1 up with 3 to play but a poor putt after a great bunker shot on 16 cost him the hole and his match finished all square.
The match, as always, was again played in a very sporting manner in some very poor weather conditions.

This continues the good start they had to this season where they won their first 2 matches and now top the league as the only unbeaten team.
The course was in good condition, but the weather conditions were poor with light drizzle and rain. The Renfrewshire team was again changed but this shows the strength of the player pool.
Drew Cleaver continued his unbeaten form and ran out a comfortable winner by 6/4.
Mac Holmes, had a walk over as his opponent did not play.
Rhys McIlroy returning to the team put in a strong performance and won 5/4
John Jack was up against the newly crowned West of Scotland Boys Champion but showed his class by holding the Champion to a square game, something nobody else could do the previous week.
Timmy Erskine making a welcome return to the team had a struggle on his hands but managed to secure a square game.
Harry Kellock once again proved a formidable opponent maintaining his 100% record and closed out the game at the 17th.
Josh Greer had a solid performance in advance of his play at the Scottish Amateur this week and won 5/4In the final game.
Cameron Percy was much to strong for his opponent and had a comfortable 8/7 win on a course where he has been champion.
The match, as always, was played in a very sporting manner.
