Matt Dalrymple – Caven (Left) & Stewart Watt – Menzies (Right)
Today (Sunday 10th July 2016) saw the rescheduled Caven /Menzies take place at Old Course Ranfurly Golf Club.
Another rain filled day threatened the event but excellent course preparation by the Old Ranfurly Green Staff saw the course in excellent condition. The event originally scheduled to take place over 36 holes was however ultimately reduced to 18 holes half way through round 2 due to the continuous heavy rain.
The Caven was well contested and was won by Old Ranfurly’s Matthew Dalrymple with a scratch score of 72. Matthew added the Caven Trophy to the Freedman Trophy he won in 2015. Unfortunately Matthew cannot defend his trophy as he is about to head of on a new adventure on August 16th when he flies out to start a Golf Scholarship at King University, Tennessee. The RGU wishes Matthew, as well other other County players Lewis Breslin and Josh Beatt all the very best on their golfing adventure.
The Menzies, for youths players aged 18-25 was won by another local boy, Stewart Watt – Old Course Ranfurly. Stewart a highly regarded county Player was a clear winner with a magnificent scratch score of 67.
The top 16 players in each event go forward to play in the matchplay events which are due to come to a conclusion on 4th September.
