Renfrewshire Boys Win at Dumbarton Golf Course
Renfrewshire Boys Golf Team continued the defence of the West League Title which they won in 2015 with a solid win against Dunbartonshire at Dumbarton Golf Course, leaving them undefeated so far this year with 2 wins and 2 draws.
Despite the poor weather of the past few days the course although heavy in places was in a very good condition, reflecting the money spent by the club in the past while to improve the drainage.
Renfrewshire could only field 3 Under 18 players due to other commitments and played an experienced Under 16 to fill the gap. 2 new players were used in the Under 16’s but unfortunately for Timothy Erskine he did not get a game as Dunbartonshire failed to field an opponent for him.
None of the boys had played the course before but as far as the Under 16’s were concerned this did not affect them with 2 of them having convincing wins while the third player lost on the last green.
In the under 18’s matches there was a big win and a big defeat with the final outcome resting on the last 2 games on the course, and with both Renfrewshire boys losing with 3 holes to play it did not look good.
However Jamie Sinnamon won 16 and 17 to go 1 up and a half in 4 at the last gave him victory by 1 hole.
Meanwhile Ibrahim Hussain made birdie at 16 and 17 to square his match and came close to winning but his final putt on 18 stayed out.
The final result was a 5.5 to 2.5 win to Renfrewshire.
Final word on Tom McKenzie who has performed very well for Renfrewshire over the last 2 seasons and bowed out to-day with a fantastic 9/7 victory before he sets off with his golfing family for a new life in Holland, we wish him well.
Also thanks for their previous contributions to the team from Matthew Dalrymple and Lewis Breslin who are now off on their next life experience to College in America. We hope you both do well
